 Letter

To: Chapter Commanders

I have selected Ben Tafoya, a 31-year law enforcement veteran, to coordinate the Department of New Mexico’s First Responders Program.

The First Responders Program, formally known as the Public Safety Officers Program, was created in order for the Military Order of the Purple Heart to pay respect to and honor those that serve and protect our communities and ultimately pay the supreme sacrifice.

Attached you will find the National Guidelines and our Implementation Plan, in support of the National Program. Please note that our guidelines delineate roles and responsibilities for each of us.It is imperative that we follow these guidelines in order to ensure the success of this program.

This program is fully operational at the Department level and your co-operation is essential for implementation.

If you have any questions, please call or write Ben Tafoya at (505) 610-4483 or bentafoyapi@comcast.net.

This is a very worthwhile community based program in which we should all participate and one that I hope, we will all support.

Fraternally Yours,

Peter J Comstock, Department Commander
