Welcome to the Department of New Mexico

Commander's Message

June 12, 2011

Dear Chapter Commanders and fellow Patriots,

I am truly looking forward the upcoming year as your Department Commander. Your past Department Commanders and their staffs have each brought vision and leadership for our membership in New Mexico and I am expecting nothing less from myself and staff during this next year.

The Department has a number of annual events that are very successful and will be continued and hopefully grow; Fishing Derby, Farmington; Golf Tournament, Albq.; Memorial & Veteran’s Day Fallen Warrior Ceremony , Alb.; State Fair Parade, Alb.; December Holiday Dinner at Copper Canyon, Alb.; and ROTC Awards Presentations state-wide. However, we should
strive to make these better and add new events to the agenda.

Areas that the Department, with the help of Chapters, could expand or improve in:

    (1) Being represented at more local Memorial and Veterans’ Day Ceremonies
    (2) Seek out new members – we cannot grow by waiting for someone else to make the first           move
    (3) Get involved with our programs that assist your fellow veterans.

Now for some news we can use:

The State has issued a new Purple Heart License Plate. You may keep your old one or apply for the new one. All new first time applicants will get the new one or they may order the old one.

The Fourth Annual Fallen Warriors Golf Tournament, the Department’s major fund- raiser benefiting Fallen and Wounded Warriors will conducted on Friday, August 26, 2011 as MOPH continues the support of this worthy cause. Please click on the Fallen Warrior Tab for further details.

In your up-coming planning: look for more information about the 2011 NM State Fair Parade & Picnic in September, Winter Holiday Dinner in December and other events throughout the state.

In closing, if have a concern or question, feel free to contact me: nmrefsch@osogrande.com

Yours in Patriotism,

Roger D Newall,
Department Commander
